It’s another fantastic release day over here at Jenn Blogs Books. The Cutaway by Christina Kovac releases today on all major platforms! I was extremely lucky to snag an early copy of this book that has been on my radar for awhile. This book is a thriller with a different spin, the main character is a TV news producer digging into a murder.

My honest review:
As I stated above The Cutaway is a different type of thriller. I have never read a book where the main investigators in a murder all work for a TV news station. That background added a bit of extra drama to the novel. There is constant conflict between all the characters at the news station which added a level of distrust right from the start.
Distrust is actually a very common theme throughout this book. Every time I thought I knew who was involved in the murder the person ended up dead or cleared of suspicion. I enjoyed being kept on my toes although the constant uncertainty was a bit stressful.
There is a lot of investigating in this book that is completely different from your typical police-led thriller. Anonymous sources, live action shots, and illegal surveillance just to name a few. For all the risks that Virginia takes to find out the truth she was rarely armed which unnerved me to no end.
I did find certain parts of the novel to be a bit slow. I know that is mainly because of the TV news angle and the necessary sub-plot lines in the story. For me I would have preferred a little less drama. The ending was a bit underwhelming after all the intenseness for most of the novel. I wanted a bit more violence or action to be included in the capture of the murderer. The book is still a solid thriller that is a unique spin on what could be a common story line.
I look forward to reading more Christina Kovac books in the future. Her writing is concise and to the point. I always knew what she was trying to convey in any given scene, and she has a real knack for making you want to look over your shoulder while reading.
